The first in the nation to store sperm for the public in the 1970, Idant is still is one of the premier facilities in the Northeast offering sperm banking services for men wanting to preserve sperm for their own future use. In addition to banking sperm for personal use, New York City-based Idant also hosts a program for anonymous sperm donors.
Anonymous donors are recruited from the 100+ colleges and universities within driving distance of the facility. To be a donor, testing is a must. You will undergo multiple physical exams, provide several sperm samples and be subjected to a variety of genetic and STD tests. HIV, Hepatitis, Gonorrhea, Tay Schs, Sickle Cell, you’ll be tested for all these and more. Many of the tests will be done during an initial screening and will require tri-monthly re-tests. All specimens are subject to a six-month quarantine period before they can be presented to potential recipients.
In order to maintain anonymity, all donors are assigned a code when they enter the anonymous sperm donor program to use in lieu of their name. The code is used on all medical documentation, tests and records to ensure that your identity remains concealed. At Idant, the identity of the recipient of your sperm will also be concealed. That means there will be no way for you to track whether you have offspring let alone anything about the child or its mother.
Anonymous donors are asked to make a minimum six-month commitment to the semen donor program and are expected to make one to two sperm deposits each week. (You must have three to five days of abstinence in order to provide viable samples.) For your first semen sample provided, you will receive $40 up front and an additional $20 once it has proven to be viable and healthy. You will be paid $60 in full for subsequent deposits.

Established in 1979, Follas Labs, Inc. offers a number or reproduction-related products and services, including a sperm donation program. With offices throughout Indiana in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Kokomo, West Lafayette and Evansville, Follas Labs is able to recruit sperm donors from a number of nearby colleges and universities. Most donor candidates are enlisted by way of on-campus lectures and discreet advertisements in local newspapers.
In order to become a sperm donor for Follas Labs, you must fill out an application. The questionnaire includes a multi-generational medical history that must be completed to the best of your abilities. After you and your family history are scrutinized, it’ll be time for your sperm to go under the microscope. Specialist will be checking for mobility and resilience of your sperm to see if it will survive the freezing and banking process.
To protect the health of sperm recipients and any offspring resulting from the use of donor sperm, all sperm collected from you will be quarantined for six months before it can be used. If there are any genetic abnormalities, sexually transmitted diseases or other illnesses detected during any of your tests, you will be rejected from the Follas Labs sperm donor program. If all is clear, you will be approved to participate as in the Follas semen donation program.
As a donor, you will be expected to make regular sperm deposits for which compensation is provided as long as the samples are viable. You will also be subjected to semi-annual physicals and blood testing. You will also be compensated for your sperm donation. Follas is currently restructuring and plans to eventually shift its sperm donation program to Genome Resources ((317) 972-1214), also located in Indiana. Those interested in donating may contact either facility.

Genome Resources is an Indianapolis, IN medical facility offering anonymous sperm donation services. The Anonymous Sperm Donor Program is open to college students and graduates between the ages of 18 and 41.Those meeting the proceeding criteria are encouraged to apply to become a Genome Resources sperm donor.
The process for becoming a sperm donor for Genome Resources is fairly straightforward. The first step is to fill out a medical health questionnaire. The form is approximately ten pages long and consists of a barrage of questions guaranteed to leave no stone of your personal life unturned. You can expect questions about your physical characteristics, immediate and extended family, lifestyle, interests, education, profession and of course, your sexual history.
Next, you will need to go in to the Genome Resources office in order to provide semen samples. Three actually. Fortunately for you, you won’t be asked to provide them all at the same time but rather a week or so apart. Each week, a semen analysis will be completed on the sample provided. During the analysis, researchers will be checking your sperm count, mobility and resilience. The three samples are required so that researchers can determine if your sperm is consistent and if it will withstand cryopreservation.
The third and final stage of becoming a sperm donor is a comprehensive physical which includes full analyses of your urine and blood. You will be evaluated for STDs, genetic disorders and overall physical fitness. Once all of your test results come back with satisfactory results, you will be invited to be a sperm donor. If you agree to actually become a Genome Resources sperm donor, you will be required to provide at least one sperm sample each week and commit to being a sperm donor for at least one year from the time you finished your application process. International Cryogenics is one of the founding facilities of the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB). The facility, currently is run by medical veteran Dr. Willis Stephens, has maintained a successful sperm donor program for the past 30 years. Participants are recruited from the Birmingham and Detroit-metro areas and come from a variety of professions, educational backgrounds, ethnicities and religious groups. Each candidate must be referred by a physician, current donor, or International Cryogenics affiliate.
As an International Cryogenics sperm donor applicant you will go through an extensive screening process in which personal data on you, your lifestyle, your medical history and your family history is collected. Because of International Cryogenics’ grass roots affiliation with AATB, the company unfalteringly adheres to the testing standards set forth by AATB for all sperm donors. For you that means no short cuts and that blood, urine and semen specimens will be tested for all major diseases, disorders and abnormalities. That includes testing for sexually transmitted diseases like HIV and AIDS, genetic disorders such as Tay Sachs and Cystic Fibrosis and regular semen analysis. Only the men with above par results for all phases of testing will be invited to become sperm donors.
As a sperm donor, there are a few ground rules:
1. You must control your urges. No sex. No alcohol. No non-prescription medicine. At least no for the 72 hours before your next scheduled sperm bank deposit.
2. You’ve got to be able to produce a sperm sample without assistance. No women. No lubricants.
3. You can’t have stage fright. All samples have to be collected on-site.
4. You must commit to providing one to two sperm samples each week for a minimum of one year.
Maintained anonymity is of utmost importance at International Cryogenics so you can rest assured that once you donate sperm, there is absolutely no way for a recipient or her child to obtain information pertaining to your identity. Your samples are not connected with you name. Instead you will be assigned a code that you will use in place of your name to identify you on any medical records or samples collected. All links to physicians and donors are also severed to ensure that there is absolutely no correlation between donors, doctors and recipients.
