International Cryogenics
-->
International Cryogenics is one of the founding facilities of the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB). The facility, currently is run by medical veteran Dr. Willis Stephens, has maintained a successful sperm donor program for the past 30 years. Participants are recruited from the Birmingham and Detroit-metro areas and come from a variety of professions, educational backgrounds, ethnicities and religious groups. Each candidate must be referred by a physician, current donor, or International Cryogenics affiliate.
As an International Cryogenics sperm donor applicant you will go through an extensive screening process in which personal data on you, your lifestyle, your medical history and your family history is collected. Because of International Cryogenics’ grass roots affiliation with AATB, the company unfalteringly adheres to the testing standards set forth by AATB for all sperm donors. For you that means no short cuts and that blood, urine and semen specimens will be tested for all major diseases, disorders and abnormalities. That includes testing for sexually transmitted diseases like HIV and AIDS, genetic disorders such as Tay Sachs and Cystic Fibrosis and regular semen analysis. Only the men with above par results for all phases of testing will be invited to become sperm donors.
As a sperm donor, there are a few ground rules:
1. You must control your urges. No sex. No alcohol. No non-prescription medicine. At least no for the 72 hours before your next scheduled sperm bank deposit.
2. You’ve got to be able to produce a sperm sample without assistance. No women. No lubricants.
3. You can’t have stage fright. All samples have to be collected on-site.
4. You must commit to providing one to two sperm samples each week for a minimum of one year.
Maintained anonymity is of utmost importance at International Cryogenics so you can rest assured that once you donate sperm, there is absolutely no way for a recipient or her child to obtain information pertaining to your identity. Your samples are not connected with you name. Instead you will be assigned a code that you will use in place of your name to identify you on any medical records or samples collected. All links to physicians and donors are also severed to ensure that there is absolutely no correlation between donors, doctors and recipients.
